San Diego Blog

I recently had the opportunity to create a blog for the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau. I decided to use WordPress since I had about a half dozen installations under my belt already. This was a complete project which included authoring the organization’s blog strategy, acquiring hosting, installing the application, designing the framework, creating an original custom template and finally developing the guidelines to which the authors would follow.

Photo Gallery is Back

I’ve restored the photo gallery. Though I may be tweaking the display over time.

We’re finally back up!

Hopefully you didn’t notice that this site was down for about a week. I decided to get rid of my hosting at yahoo.com and convert over to my existing hosting account at GoDaddy.com. I realized that I don’t need to be paying for two hosting accounts when I can just use one – and Go Daddy was the winner.

Yahoo hosting is a decent product but Go Daddy hosting is far superior. I originally just tried pointing my DNS over to my account at Go Daddy but Yahoo doesn’t make this easy. I figured I might as well transfer the domain over and just maintain one account.  The transfer took MUCH longer than it should have. Yahoo doesn’t make it easy. I had to wait the full 5 days until the transfer completes by default. Someone at Yahoo learned from the AOL school of account cancellations – Don’t Make it Easy. They didn’t.  I likely won’t use Yahoo Hosting again. Their product is more expensive, less flexible, unnecessarily difficult and their customer service is extremely far inferior to Go Daddy.

Now it’s time to redesign the site. You might find a few broken links and missing content. I’ll likely be redesigning the theme from scratch instead of using this downloaded “free” theme.

Stay tuned.

Projects

I’ve created a new category for updates which I’ll use to discuss projects I’ve recently completed, worked on in the past or currently working on.

Site Updates

I’ve updated the homepage and online marketing page with a little more relevant content and detail.

Site Updates

I’ve finally got the site and template recovered. I installed a few WP plugins:
- Google Analyticator
- NextGen Gallery I’m still experimenting with the NextGen plugin which is why there are only a couple photos uploaded.

New database

I’ve setup a new database for the third time. For some reason I’ve corrupted the previous two.
